April 29th, 2008One Missed Call

One Missed Call There were good things about this movie, and bad things.

The good part is that there was a lot of suspense. The effects and creepiness factor is also pretty high. The bad part is the acting is bad, and there is a lot of things that just don’t really make any sense. Also the cheese factor gets up there at times. Also wasn’t too fond of the ending.

Overall though, I was expecting it to be worse, much worse. From the low score it has on IMDB, to what people were saying about it. I’ve seen far worse movies than this one however.

The acting was okay, but also could have been improved. That hot guy Johnny Lewis, was also in this movie. I mentioned him in the Aliens VS. Predator: Requiem review. He is so hot, but played such a minor role in this movie. The guy who plays the detective in this movie, Edward Burns, is also sexy as hell, and you could tell that Beth, played by Shannyn Sossamon, really wanted to get in his pants. Can’t blame her! I was disappointed that Margaret Cho played such a small role in this movie. I guess it was just a cameo. I don’t think the role they put her in was right for her though.

Rental? Yes.

Purchase? No.

April 17th, 2008Fire In My Building

It’s always annoying when the fire alarm goes off. It’s so loud! I immediately run to the kitchen and grab some tape, and a CD from my dad’s small collection, and tape it up to cover the speaker that the wailing fire alarm comes from in the hallway of my apartment. It’s unnecessarily loud if you ask me, even when it’s covered is enough to wake up a person from a deep sleep.

Usually when the fire alarm goes off, it’s because they are testing the alarm, or someone pulled it as a prank. Not today!

There has only been two other fires in my building that I know of. One was a minor kitchen fire, and the other was a car fire in the basement. After I heard the Mississauga Fire Department trucks coming, I went out on the balcony at approximately 8:45 this morning. I knew something was up when I saw the chief coming in his van. He only shows up if it’s real it seems. I noticed people were looking up the side of the building, so I leaned over the balcony a bit, and looked up.

It was a moment of fear and panic all at once. Oh my god the building is on fire! It looked like it was pretty high up, but it’s hard to tell when you’re looking up the side of the building from the balcony. All I could see is smoke billowing out of someone’s balcony, and pieces of burnt material floating down the side of the building. I went inside and immediately informed my dad and my aunt who was visiting for a day that this was real. I noticed a woman and a child consoling each other outside, and the kid looked very upset. I’m assuming it was their place. I would also assume most of their stuff is gone now. I feel bad for them, I can’t even begin to imagine losing everything you own. Computers can be replaced, but photos and other sentimental things would be gone forever. That would kill me.

I guess when you see this happen so close to you, it makes you think how fragile everything in life is, and you have to be reminded of that once in a while I think. It’s definitely made me think about things today.

The following picture is looking straight up the side of my building to the fire. You can see the flames shooting out the building.

April 17th, 2008Nasty Comments

Recently I’ve received a couple of nasty comments on my blog. I know who they are coming from, despite the fact that one of them tried to hide who they are by using a fake email address. I’m really not so sure why people bother to leave nasty comments on a blog… why are they reading in the first place? Or maybe it’s just that they are using it as a way to contact you and let you  know how they feel, without directly emailing you, or calling you, or whatever other method of communication would not prevent them from revealing their true identity.

People love to hide behind their computers and say all these nasty things that they would never say to a person’s face. I’m the complete opposite, I’d much rather tell someone exactly how I feel directly, and have no fear of doing so. Telling someone how you really feel is always better than lying, and who knows… maybe you’ll be able to come to some sort of agreement with that person when they know how you really feel, or settle things that are causing the anger or upset.

Here is an example of a comment I received. They are quoting me in one of my blog entries, followed by their feelings.

You are a miserable excuse for a human being.

"I will not be a nurse for my parents"
But I am a 30 year old man who lives at home on their dime and doesn’t work.

"No one deserves what I’ve had in my life"
Maybe not, but a hell of a lot of people have had a hell of a lot worse than two parents who let you live at home and coddle your every mental problem.

Pathetic.

Actually I don’t live on their dime, I do pay rent, not that it’s anyone’s concern… although apparently she thinks it is her concern. Her name is Tara, and she goes by the nickname soju, and she even chose to use her real email address and used soju as her name in the comment field. She’s a complete bitch from everything I’ve heard, but who really cares, I don’t know her. She’s probably some worn out,did-too-much-meth, raver has been.

Then there is this one.

Unemployed and a loose hole, wow you ARE a prize pig aren’t you?

Unemployed? No, I’m on disability. Quite a difference. Loose hole? Hmm interesting for someone who can count how long it’s been since he had sex in years not days or weeks or months. But again, that’s not really anyone’s concern here. I know who left this one too, his name is Iain, and we dated briefly. Apparently he doesn’t know how relationships work as he’s never had one, but he thinks he’s a pro or something…
How do I know it’s Iain? Well he used the name rawzone, as his name when leaving the comment, and a fake email address using the same name. Rawzone is a WWE thing, and Iain’s favourite wrestler/obsession is part of this group of wrestlers who make up the rawzone or something like that anyway. Plus there’s some other little tidbits that helped me figure out who the comment was left by.

Anyway, what people don’t realize is that you can’t really hide on the internet. It’s very easy to figure out little details and then piece them together. All I have to say is that if you don’t like me, and don’t like what I have to say, either leave a comment with your real contact information and with your real name, or contact me on my About Me page, and we can have a good ole discussion about how you feel about me and my blog. Otherwise get the fuck out.

April 16th, 2008Juno

Juno This movie has a bit of everything in it really. Romance, drama, comedy. Lots of heartbreak, funny, and touching moments. I wasn’t going to bother watching this movie, but everyone I was talking to about it had nothing but good things to say about it. That is usually the only time I’ll bother watching something I’ve previously has no interest in.

I was not disappointed with this at all. I think it could have been better, but it was not a huge letdown or anything. The ending was a bit predictable, despite the curve ball that was thrown in not too long before the end.

The father of the baby; Paulie Bleeker, played by Michael Cera, was a bit dull, and I think it would have been better if he had played a bit more of a role in the movie. I’m really not a huge fan of Ellen Page. I think she’s a bit snotty to be honest, and it shows in her acting. She has a very snooty typical Nova Scotian attitude,(she is from there) that a lot of people there seem to have. I’m not sure why so many people who live there are like that, but whatever. I am just not a big fan of hers, I find her acting very fake and trying too hard. I’m saying that from the standpoint of a viewer however, not an actor of any kind, or professional movie critic.

Overall though, this one is definitely worth the watch, but it wasn’t good enough for me to purchase. Definitely worth the rental though!

April 13th, 2008The Ring

The RingMy mom got me a bracelet for Christmas, but I didn’t like it. So she told me I could exchange it for something else. The bracelet would have pulled the hair on my arms, and that drives me crazy. Also it wasn’t really "me", it didn’t look like something I would wear.

The exchange period was 90 days, and I almost used up that 90 days before I went to Peoples in the mall and looked for something different. My mom and I went together and looked at rings, since I do like rings.

They had one okay stainless steel ring, which is what the bracelet was made of, but I much preferred the Titanium Tungsten rings,  which were like three times the price of the bracelet. My mom said I could get it though, it would be my birthday present as well as my Christmas present. I do consider it special, as it’s something which will always remind me of her. It’s not just some article of clothing or some toy that I’ll get bored of. The ring is awesome, I absolutely love it.

April 13th, 2008Portishead - Machine Gun

The new single from Portishead is called Machine Gun.

I never thought I’d hear anything new from them again, and I couldn’t be happier after hearing the new single, that I am hearing them again. I can not wait for the rest of the album, and hopefully a tour which includes a date in Toronto, and a ticket with my name on it. I absolutely can not miss seeing them live. I’ve been waiting for years and years for that moment.

April 5th, 2008Cloverfield

CloverfieldI decided not to watch this one in the theatre after I found out the way it was filmed. I knew that if I attempted to watch it in the theatre, I would most likely get really nauseated due to the shaky camera work. It’s supposed to feel like you are watching someone’s home video of the events that take place in the movie. That’s the kind of time we live in. Everyone documents everything and posts their videos to YouTube. I just don’t think our movies need to feel like we’re watching Youtube though. I understand the effect they were going for, I just think it was unnecessary.

As for the plot? Awesome! I absolutely loved it. It was a very freaky movie, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I wish that more information on the monster itself would have been given, but I guess they will leave that to the sequel, as it’s already been confirmed there will be one. I just hope that they will not use the same filming style.

I’m really liking the fact that the horror genre is changing from the gross out gorfest’s, to actually freaky movies that make you wonder, "could this happen?" I find the realistic edge in them very frightening, way more so than these slasher type of movies you see.

The "acting" in this movie could have used a little ‘pick me up’ I think. None of them were actually discussing what they were seeing. It’s like they were all in some sort of zombie state with no feelings most of the movie. It was also a bit too juvenile at times for an adult audience. It was like a TV show for teenagers meets Godzilla or something.

The monster itself? Wow! Freaky! The effects? Awesome! Although a little 9/11 reality feeling at times.

Would I rent this? Yes!
Would I buy it on DVD? Yes!

Alienv VS Predator RequiemI’m not quite sure if I liked this movie or disliked it. I liked that it was set on Earth. I liked the actors. I liked the effects. What I didn’t like was the predictability, the dark filming, and trying to distinguish between who’s the Predator’s and who’s the Aliens. It’s actually hard to tell the difference between the two in this movie. I also didn’t like that one of the actresses was made out to be like the new Ripley from the original Aliens.

The ending was a bit strange, and I have a feeling there will be a sequel for it, which is just ridiculous. I don’t know if I’ll bother watching it if there is another one, I would rather just see another Aliens sequel instead.

There was one really cute actor that was in this movie that was in The OC, his name is Johnny Lewis. He looks so much hotter in this movie than he did on that show though. I was very impressed! There’s even a shirtless scene, albeit short.

Would I rent this? Yes.
Would I buy it? No.

Is it a coincidence that today is not only April Fool’s day, but also the anniversary of when I met Johnny? It’s kind of like the joke that is my life. Everything in my life has always turned out to be a big pile of shit. The joke is on me I guess again with Johnny. He won’t respond to any private messages I’ve sent him on a web site that we’re both members of, despite my pleading and begging. I guess 3 years of loving someone and knowing someone for 6 years is a good reason to ignore them. I’m out of options. I’m out of energy. I’m out.

I can’t do this anymore. Johnny if you ever read this I want you to know I’ll always love you. I hope that some day I will see you again.

I am a moth who just wants to share your light.
I’m just an insect trying to get out of the night.
I only stick with you because there are no others.
You
Are
All
I
Need.
