May 23rd, 2008Weezer - Pork And Beans

I’m not the biggest fan of Weezer, but they have had some very awesome songs over the years. This is the video for their new song “Pork And Beans”. It has lots of familiar parodies and appearances from famous YouTube stars that you should recognize if you’ve been on the internet for the past few years. I love it! Made me laugh, and was kind of nostalgic.

I heard Ubiquitous Synergy Seeker for the first time on The Edge a few months ago and I loved it immediately. I thought the line from "I’s The B’y" was kind of cheesy, but very Canadian, and still fits in with the song; although I have no idea what the song is about, and the title doesn’t really help. Anyway, today I found out there is a video for it, and it’s pretty cool, I must say. Here it is!

May 21st, 2008No Cancer, But…

So I went to my doctor yesterday to get my results from the ultrasound. It turns out that I have no cancer or tumours. However I do have a calcium deposit, which can prove to be cancerous later in life. My doctor offered me to go see a urologist (at least I think that’s what he is), to get a second a opinion and more advice since that is his area of expertise. I’m a bit more relaxed now to know that it’s nothing serious and life threatening, but at the same time, it’s kind of scary that I do have something in me that could turn out to be more serious later on in life.

*phew*

May 15th, 2008Testicular Pain

Well I’ve been having pain in my left testicle for a few months now, and I’ve just been ignoring it. It’s like a dull throbbing kind of pain, that just randomly comes and goes. Well it started to happen more often, and the pain seemed to increase a bit, so I decided I should go to my doctor and get it looked at.

She felt them to see if there was any lumps, and said she couldn’t feel anything abnormal. She is sending me to get an ultrasound to check and make sure that everything is okay. It’s scary to think I could have cancer. I wish I had someone to go with me to the appointment today, just for comfort. Going alone is kind of scary. Hopefully it’s not cancer, but if it’s not, then what is it? It’s got to be something. I wouldn’t be having this pain if it were nothing. I am curious if I’m going to find out the results immediately, due to it being an ultrasound, or if they will have to examine it and let me know later. Ahh it’s just so scary! :(

Wow! This is so awesome!

May 12th, 2008RIP Johnny

In late 1995 or early 1996 I met someone named Denise. She ended up being a very food friend and best friend for years. Our relationship has kind of changed over the past few years, and we don’t talk or see each other very often at all. It’s unfortunate that I saw her last night under the circumstances which I did.

She had a brother named Johnny who I met when I met her. He was 14 at the time, and looked just like her, only a boy version. He was this cute little kid who always wanted to be around the bigger kids, and he was always happy and smiling. He changed rapidly as he grew older through his teenage years. He quickly sprouted upwards, and his voice changed. He became this giant man in what seemed like the blink of an eye. So to me he wasn’t just a friend of a friend. He was also my friend, but then again he was everyone’s friend. He liked everyone, and got along with everyone. It was rare to see him upset or angry. He had a way of making everyone around him smile.

Last week Denise called me out of the blue at my house. The tone of her voice made me know right away that something was wrong. Johnny had died. He was cliff diving in Hawaii, where he had just moved to in November 2007. I didn’t even believe her when she called, I couldn’t. How could this awesome guy be dead? How did I not get to see him one last time while I could? I can’t even remember for sure the last time I saw him, or where I saw him. I hate that.

While at his viewing last night, it all just felt too surreal. Like it wasn’t really happening. I missed his funeral today, and I feel horrible about it. I just didn’t have the time to go to the mall and buy a shirt, tie and shoes. All of which I didn’t realize I needed except the shoes until last night. At least I got to go to the wake and say goodbye.

Rest In Peace Johnny. You will be forever remembered the way I remember you. An awesome guy with a smile on his face.

Today Portishead released a video for their song, The Rip. It’s an animated video which makes absolutely no sense to me, but I love the song. Maybe you’ll be able to make more sense of the video. If so please leave a comment telling me what you think it’s about. The only thing I can get from it is like humans destroying the world maybe? Cutting down trees? Congested cities?

Also they have a video for the song, Machine Gun that they recorded in Berlin. Very creepy and cold video. I love it.

Nine Inch Nails is coming and again… I am going to another concert by myself it seems. I was supposed to go with my friend Melissa, but she didn’t get back to me on time about tickets, so I just figured she wanted a floor ticket like me. I couldn’t afford two tickets, so I just ordered one. Then she sent me a text message informing me she got two tickets… in the seats! Great! So I have this floor ticket now and she has two seats. Either I can find someone who wants to go and use my floor ticket, or she can try and get a floor ticket at the general public ticket sale on Friday, because the presale was sold out after 4 minutes apparently. Hard to believe in a way considering how much tickets cost. Came to $82.00! Unbelievable, this concert better make me a really happy person after it’s all over. I swear if they don’t play Heresy or Mr. Self Destruct I will not be happy!

The thing with this presale is that you can’t sell your tickets. The person who puts their name down when ordering the tickets has to be there to enter the venue. That person must bring photo identification, the credit card used to purchase the tickets, and the receipt. So I’m kind of stuck with a decision to make; or at least I was, until I found out more bad news. Melissa also informed me that she arrives back from Montreal that night, and won’t even be able to go to the concert at all! So I really don’t seem to have a choice now, unless she can get her flight changed to an earlier one. I have to go by myself. I saw them by myself last time I was at their show as well, and Radiohead too. It’s pretty depressing and I felt like a big loser going alone. At least this time I’ll be in general admission, so I hopefully won’t look like I’m by myself. Ugh! Anyone want to go with me and try to get a general admission floor ticket on the public on sale on Friday? Please?

So Nine Inch Nails released yet another album available completely free to download, The Slip. I even was downloading it over 500 kB/s!! Amazing stuff here. They’re even using bit torrent with their own tracker to get the higher quality releases out to fans. Innovation people. It’s for the fans according to the download page. A physical release will happen in July, thankfully. Although I’m starting to really not care about CDs now, but I do love to hold something physical, not sure why.

I’ve decided to review The Slip as I listen to it.

999,999
Very creepy intro song! Love it.

1,000,000
OH FUCK YES. Kicking our ass from the get go! Love the lyrics, the music. AWESOME!

Letting You
You think you’re getting a break, but the ass kicking only gets harder! I start to wonder if this is the second part to Year Zero that Trent told us we’d be getting after the first part was released.

Discipline
Well this was already released for download a couple of weeks ago from NIN’s website, after it mysteriously appeared at radio stations one morning. I didn’t really care for it too much, because it’s so mainstream sounding, but now that I’m hearing it with the other songs, it fits much better, and maybe it’s grown on me now. Toned down a bit from the previous two songs, and very radio friendly. It will get stuck in your head, I promise.

Echoplex
This one was released on May 2 or 3 through the band’s iLike site. Okay it’s really making sense now. This one is definitely for the fans. Releasing a single like that through a site that is for fans to show their favourite musicians. I didn’t even find out about it until last night, and I’m usually very on top of these things. As for the track, after 2 listens it’s alright. Definitely not the best one so far on the album. It fits though, it continues the theme of the album. I simply love the breakdown on this one. All the sounds, the mood is just amazing. Quietest song on the album at this point.

Head Down
Oh man the guitars. SO good. I’m already in love with this album at this point, and now I love it more. Love the lyrics to this one too. One of the things that really stands out to be so far on this album, is the drums. There is a lot of drums used on all of the songs so far, very drum heavy. And I LOVE IT!

Lights in the Sky
Wow! Eerie. Amazing. So quiet. This one is a masterpiece and is right up there with Hurt. Trent how do you do it? You’re unbelievable. Tingles up my spine while listening to this.

Corona Radiata
No lyrics in this one, but it’s very awesome. It’s also the longest track so far. Very layered and atmospheric.

The Four of Us are Dying
Another instrumental, but this time not so quiet. It’s got lots of growling guitar and is pretty good, but I find my attention drifting a bit now.

Demon Seed
Excellent closing track. I like how it just ends so abruptly. Very layered again. Lots going on in this track. It’s awesome with lots of effects and voices.

This album feels like a certain period of time. After listening to it, I have this feeling that it’s not done. That there is more to come, and this is only a part of something bigger. Time will tell. You just never know what Trent Reznor and his team have up their sleeves lately. GO DOWNLOAD IT NOW!

Nine Inch Nails have posted their new tour dates and the opening acts for those dates. Among the bands opening for some of the stops on the tour is a group called Does It Offend You, Yeah?

They are so awesome! They combine rock and dance music and actually make it danceable and good, which so many acts fail to do. I wish they were playing the Toronto opening slot, but they are not sadly. It’s okay though, they are coming here and doing their own show, so hopefully I can go to that! I think they’re going to make it big.

There is one song on the album that really stands out to me, but there is no video for it unfortunately, but they do have two three other videos, so here they are…
