Well I received my Zune from Matchstick. If you want to get one for free like I did, click here.
In the package was an 8 GB Zune with headphones and 3 colours for the headphones. Pink, orange, and black. The Zune itself is black. There was also an AC charger. Personally I can’t believe the Zune only comes with USB attachment for charging. I prefer to charge through my AC charger because it’s faster I find. Also came with the premium headphones which are really cool, but any time you touch the wires you can hear it through the headphones while listening to music. They are too sensitive apparently. They’re fabric covered instead of rubber, which might be why, I’m not sure.
As for the product… I’m disappointed. I’ve been waiting so long for Zune to come to Canada. First of all 8 GB is not enough for me, which is not Zune’s fault, as they do have an 80 GB model available. The promotion however only had 8 GB models. The screen is far too small for my liking, which again is because the model size. The 80 GB model has a much larger screen.
The worst part of the Zune is not the product itself, it’s the software for updating it and listening to music on your computer. It lacks a lot compared to iTunes. It has no system tray icon, so when you minimize it, it goes to your taskbar, taking up valuable real estate there. It is very memory intensive and has a slow response considering how feature lacking it is. It also lacks my favourite feature of iTunes, which is the skip when shuffling option. You can’t update just the album cover, you have to update all of the mp3 tag info or none at all. Shuffling only works in some places in the player. The social aspect is definitely the best part of the software and experience. This is something that is seriously lacking from iTunes. The other crappy part is that Canada isn’t getting the full experience from Zune, as the Marketplace isn’t working right now. Apparently it’s coming later this year.
The FM tuner is very awesome. I like that I can keep up with anything that might be going on in the news. If something is happening in the world, I can just turn on the radio and find out the most up to date information if I’m on the go and don’t have access to a computer or TV.
Overall though, I am not impressed and have no intentions of buying the 80 GB version. This is mostly due to the software. Microsoft should know that in order to compete with iTunes, they need to have everything iTunes has and more. iPod Touch here I come! (When the price comes down.) Sorry Microsoft, I really wanted to like your product, but you failed.
This was a weird movie for a few reasons. The first reason is that it’s an action movie, but yet it has a lot of emotion in it as well. Men crying and shooting in the same movie. The same men crying are shooting, actually. That’s not something you see much of in these types of movies.
The comedy is also really twisted and great. The somewhat subtle hints of anti-Americanism is pretty funny too. Gotta love the British and Europeans really, don’t you?
The characters are all really great. No boring or annoying actors in this one. My only complaint was that the story was a bit drab, and could have used a bit of a pick-me-up at some point, to keep things a little more active.
You really start to feel for the characters in the movie. Well, in particular one named Ray, played by Colin Farrell. He is so damn cute in this movie too. I just love everything about him! From his accent, to his looks, to his dirty mouth and stubbly face.
Back in early May, I came across an offer for a free MP3 player on one of my RSS feeds. My iPod is on it’s last legs I think, plus it’s one of the old versions, so I’m in need of an updated player. Plus I had a feeling it might be for the Zune, since they were releasing it this spring.
Turns out I was right! It is the Zune. I got a call last week from someone at Matchstick, who asked me more questions, and then informed me I was eligible for a free 8 GB Zune! I was thrilled about this as I’ve been waiting for the Zune for a long time now. Ever since it was announced and released in the U.S. Now I get to have one of my very own! I don’t know which colour I’ll be receiving, hopefully black. I wish that I could have had the 80 GB version, as I have more than 8 GB of music, so that kind of sucks, but I’m not going to complain about a free Zune. Not to mention I get a second free one, to give to a friend. Now if only I had friends that I actually hang out with to try out the wireless capabilities. I still haven’t received it yet, but you can be sure I’ll be blogging about it when I get it!
Apparently there are still more to give away, so if you’re interested in the Zune, which you should be, because it’s awesome go here:
So far this Spring we have had some really cool storms. Nothing really severe, which are much more fun than your regular storms, but still great ones none the less.
What I’ve noticed with most of the storms we’ve had so far, is the lightning has been the most prominent feature of the storms. I’m a bit of a weather nerd, and I love photography, so I can get the best of both worlds when I get a great photo of lightning or cloud formations. I have two really awesome examples which I’m very proud of that I have here to post on my blog.
The first is a picture of some lightning. There was no rain from this storm, as the storm didn’t come over me, but went over Toronto and the lake, so the lightning was in the distance, which allowed for perfect picture taking of lightning. If you look closely, you’ll see the CN Tower is being hit by it. This was on June 5th, 2008.
Next is a storm on June 15th, 2008. There were actually 7 separate storms that day, which is just crazy. There was two severe ones, and the others were fairly short, but still all had very heavy rain. This photo is of the second severe storm, in which winds reached almost 100 kph. The clouds were unlike anything I’d ever seen. The only time I’ve ever seen clouds like this is on TV, or photos of big storms you see in places like Kansas. It was very ominous and awesome to see. The clouds were moving very fast too. This is actually a photo stitch using Windows Live Photo Gallery. It does it so well and so easily.
Sunday June 1st, I got into an argument with my dad at the dinner table. It was due to the fact that he hadn’t showered in over a week, and was smelling really badly. I understand he has a hard time standing up in the shower, but if he can’t take a shower on his own, he should really be getting help with that. I am not going to carry my father into the shower, and my mom isn’t about to either. I don’t know why they don’t look into getting one of those bars installed in the shower, so that he could at least use that to support himself better in the shower. Although, I’m not sure if the building would allow it. Anyway, during this argument I decide it was time to talk to my sisters about the bullshit that goes on in this house, and that I’m not responsible for it, and that not everything that goes wrong with my dad’s health is my fault.
So immediately after dinner I headed straight to my room and picked up the phone and called my sister Kim. I just went straight to it, telling her my purpose for the call, and that I don’t know why she’s not talking to me, when I didn’t do anything wrong. She immediately started to raise her voice, and get mad at me for not helping my dad up and leaving him on the floor when he fell this past January. First of all, if I hadn’t woken my mom up to tell her that he fell, he probably would have been there all night. I did not help get him up though, because I just don’t want to deal with it. It freaks me out to see that shit, and I also have my own troubles. I just don’t want to be that person taking care of their parents when they fall. He only got himself to that point, and he knew he was getting worse for a few weeks.
Anyway, when I told her that I’m going through my own shit, she said that I was psycho, and that I have issues. That I have gay issues. That I’m a faggot. That’s right. My own sister called me a faggot. Well Kim, your faggot brother is not your brother anymore.
It’s really a shame it has come down to this. I was calling her, and she is the one that wasn’t talking to me. I was calling her to stop the childish bullshit once and for all. I was calling her to patch things up and get past all this and come to some sort of understanding. She wouldn’t have any part of it though, and decided to just yell like a little brat and not even let me talk or get one single word on. Then she threatened me if I hung up on her. Not sure what she was threatening exactly though. She seems to think she knows everything that goes on in my house, and then blames me for everything that goes wrong. She even brought up how I didn’t drive her and my other sister Kathy to the airport when they were here last. I told her I can’t drive on highways, that it gives me panic attacks. She doesn’t care though. She hasn’t cared about me for a long time and it really shows. It’s okay, she doesn’t exist anymore.
I was really not impressed with this movie. Basically, Jessica Alba can not act! Watching her is like watching a puddle evaporate on a hot day. She is very boring, and really does not invoke any interest in the character she plays in this movie at all.
She wasn’t the only one in the movie who can’t act. There was really only one other role, which was also very boring. The plot sucked, and wasn’t even scary one bit. They relied solely on graphics to scare you. Although using unnecessarily loud sound effects was another attempt to scare the audience as well. They failed miserably with this movie, and it was a waste of time to even watch it. Even just writing a review of this movie is a waste of time, so I’m going to stop now.
I’m not the biggest fan of Weezer, but they have had some very awesome songs over the years. This is the video for their new song “Pork And Beans”. It has lots of familiar parodies and appearances from famous YouTube stars that you should recognize if you’ve been on the internet for the past few years. I love it! Made me laugh, and was kind of nostalgic.
I heard Ubiquitous Synergy Seeker for the first time on The Edge a few months ago and I loved it immediately. I thought the line from "I’s The B’y" was kind of cheesy, but very Canadian, and still fits in with the song; although I have no idea what the song is about, and the title doesn’t really help. Anyway, today I found out there is a video for it, and it’s pretty cool, I must say. Here it is!
So I went to my doctor yesterday to get my results from the ultrasound. It turns out that I have no cancer or tumours. However I do have a calcium deposit, which can prove to be cancerous later in life. My doctor offered me to go see a urologist (at least I think that’s what he is), to get a second a opinion and more advice since that is his area of expertise. I’m a bit more relaxed now to know that it’s nothing serious and life threatening, but at the same time, it’s kind of scary that I do have something in me that could turn out to be more serious later on in life.
